How to Pack for Your Move While Caring for Your Little Ones

by Chad Diaz

As a parent of young toddlers, packing for an imminent move is no mean feat. This is especially true if your spouse works until late as you are left with very little time to work with. Yes, you could opt to simply throw everything willy-nilly into boxes as you move from room to room, but this would be a nightmare for you and your movers when unpacking your things in your new home.

So how do you go about packing for your move when you have a young toddler or two clamouring for your attention? It's not as easy as simply distracting them. According to research, a toddler's brain is twice as active as an adult's. They crave attention and if they don't get it, they'll soon let you know exactly how they feel about that!

Fortunately, although toddlers present unique problems, they also present unique opportunities when it comes to getting your packing done.

Arrange Your Packing Around Meal and Nap Times

These little pockets of time will become precious to you as you pack for your move. Meal time can be spent packing the kitchen while your toddler sits in their high chair making a royal mess. Nap times give you a chance to pack further afield, in the adjacent rooms, for example. Make sure you purchase a baby gate that you can use to keep your toddler safe if they happen to get up and wander without you knowing.

Give Your Toddler Their Own Box of Items

Toddlers don't like to be left out. They want to be involved in whatever mommy and daddy are doing. Thankfully, they also tend to love boxes. When your toddler is awake and you need to pack a room, simply prepare 1 or 2 boxes for them to play in. You can get creative and build a tunnel, or dump some toys into a bigger box, sit them in it, and they'll likely feel like part of the team. This allows you to pack in close proximity to your toddler.

Pack Anything Toddler-Related Last!

Leave your child's room till last as well as pretty much anything you might need for them between now and your move, including clothes, toiletries and toys. This is not only good for keeping your toddler entertained, but it will also help you avoid any panicky situations where you realise you don't have any talcum powder or cream at hand when you need it most. It also means you can unpack your kid's room first once you arrive at your new house.

Hire Movers to Pack and Unpack

This might be the best money you ever spend, especially considering what's at stake. Hiring a team of movers to pack for you means that you are free to care for your children. You'll also have more time to label boxes and decide what goes where in the new house.

Even with a team of removalists from a company like Atkins Removals & Storage Pty Ltd to help you organise your things, you will still need to be involved in the packing process to some degree. However, with movers on your side, you'll be faced with far fewer temper tantrums than there might have been had you decided to go it alone.

About Me

Buying a Property

Hi! Welcome to my blog. My name is Walter and this is my real estate blog. I am not a real estate expert and I do not work in the industry. But I am very interested in the subject. My sister has recently been buying and selling a number of properties across Australia. I have been following her every step of the way and I have learnt an awful lot about how a real estate agent can help you to seal a deal. Using some simple tricks and tips you can sell a property quickly and get a great price or buy a property for a below market price.
